International Youth Day 2021

International Youth Day 2021

International Youth Day was endorsed by the UN General Assembly in 1999. It is a day to celebrate young people's views and initiatives around the world. Young people have a key role to play in supporting the realization of Sustainable Development Goals, as well as addressing climate change, unemployment, poverty, gender inequality, conflict, and migration.

This year as we mark International Youth Day under the theme “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health", Urban Economy Forum will be presenting messages from youth leaders, youth led and youth serving networks, international organizations, and urban thinkers around the world.

IYD is a day to celebrate young people's views and initiatives around the world. The youth as leaders of today and tomorrow have a key role to play in supporting the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as addressing urban food security, climate change, unemployment, poverty, gender inequality, conflict, and migration.

The participants of the ECOSOC Youth Forum (EYF) in 2021 focused on the impact of COVID-19, particularly on its effect on human health, the environment, and food systems. One of the resolutions of EYF was to work toward creating more equitable food systems. International Youth Day 2021 aims to build up on the momentum from EYF. It is also very encouraging to note that the World Food Forum (WFF), an innovative youth-led platform launched in March this year to help fight hunger and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is gaining global momentum.
