Visa & Travel Information
International participants attending the 9th Urban Economy Forum (UEF9) in Toronto, Canada are responsible for ensuring that they have the appropriate travel documents required to enter Canada.
We strongly encourage all international participants to review Canada's entry requirements and begin any required visa or travel authorization process as early as possible.
Do You Need a Visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)?
Depending on your nationality, passport or travel document, and method of travel, you may need either a Temporary Resident Visa (Visitor Visa) or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to travel to Canada.
Use the official Government of Canada tool to determine which document applies to your circumstances:
Check Canadian entry requirements:
Government of Canada – Find out if you need a visa or eTA
https://ircc.canada.ca/english/visit/visas.asp
Please note that obtaining a visa or eTA does not guarantee admission to Canada. The final decision regarding entry is made by a Canada Border Services Agency officer at the Canadian port of entry.
Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa)
A Visitor Visa, also known as a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), is an official document placed in your passport confirming that you meet the requirements to travel to Canada.
The validity period of a Visitor Visa is determined by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). A visa may be issued for single or multiple entries and may, in some circumstances, be valid for up to 10 years or until the expiry of the passport or biometrics, whichever comes first.
Most visitors are normally permitted to remain in Canada for up to six months per visit, although the authorized period of stay is determined by Canadian border authorities upon entry.

Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)
An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is an entry requirement for eligible visa-exempt foreign nationals travelling to or transiting through Canada by air.
An eTA is electronically linked to your passport and is generally valid for up to five years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.
If you obtain a new passport, you will need a new eTA.
An approved eTA allows eligible travellers to travel to Canada but does not guarantee entry. A border services officer makes the final determination regarding admission to Canada.

Biometrics
Depending on your nationality and immigration history, you may be required to provide biometrics (fingerprints and a photograph) as part of your Visitor Visa application.
Applicants who require biometrics will receive instructions from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). After receiving a Biometrics Instruction Letter, applicants should arrange their appointment as soon as possible to help avoid processing delays.
Some applicants are exempt, and applicants who have previously provided Canadian biometrics may not need to provide them again.
For current requirements, please consult:

Travelling Through the United States
Participants whose itinerary includes transit through the United States must also ensure that they meet all applicable U.S. entry or transit requirements.
Depending on your nationality and circumstances, you may require a valid U.S. visa or authorization under the Visa Waiver Program, including ESTA where applicable.
Please verify your requirements directly with the appropriate U.S. government authorities before booking your travel.
