On December 4th, 2025, global city leaders, urban experts, and international institutions gathered in Toronto at World Urban Pavilion Powered by The Daniels Corporation for the official Global announcement of the Smart Cities Center for Urban Transformation (SCUT), a metropolitan-focused innovation hub designed to accelerate sustainable, inclusive, and data-driven urban development around the world.
SCUT aims to serve as a global catalyst for smart city advancement, aligning local and metropolitan priorities with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the New Urban Agenda, and international smart-city resolutions. Built as a collaborative platform, SCUT brings together governments, academia, industry, and civil society to co-develop scalable solutions to pressing urban challenges.
The announcement featured high-level remarks from municipal leaders, United Nations representatives, a global urban expert, and industry partners moderated by Marc Kealey member of the senior advisory board of UEF.
Mr. Reza Pourvaziry, Chair of the Urban Economy Forum and SCUT, delivered the Vision Address and presented the 5-Year Certificate of Membership to the BBA Real Estate & Investment Group, and appreciated the inspiring role of Soheyl M Z Kadjani, MBA CEO of BBA, highlighting the expanded global partnership of UEF supporting SCUT’s establishment and launch.
Key speakers emphasized the urgency of coordinated smart-city investments, data-informed governance, and innovative policy frameworks to ensure cities remain resilient and future-ready. The program included insights from Mayor David West (City of Richmond Hill), Analia Pastran, M.Sc.Frank D'hondt ,Dr. Rohit Ramchandani,Erick Carreras,Yehia Ibrahim K.,eduardo moreno,anantha krishnan,ISOCARP, UNU-INWEH, UCLG-MEWA, and the international research and academic community and professionals.
The event concluded with the official unveiling of the SCUT logo design by Hanieh Riahi, symbolizing a major step toward establishing SCUT as a globally recognized center dedicated to transforming cities into sustainable, prosperous, and human-centered metropolitan hubs.
