THE FIRST STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING

3RD COLLINGWOOD WORLD SUMMIT: HABITAT IN TOWNS 2022

In preparation for the 3rd Collingwood World Summit: Habitat in Towns 2022, we are establishing this year’s Steering Committee to help guide its programming. The 3rd Collingwood World Summit (“herein Habitat in Towns 2022”) will continue as a global platform where all voices and innovative ideas are heard on sustainable urban development at the scale of towns and small cities.

The theme for this year’s summit is Sustainable Housing and Finance as a catalyst for achieving the SDGs, in particular SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities). In preparation for Habitat in Towns 2022 activities, the first Steering Committee meeting was held on April 13, 2022 from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM (Eastern Toronto Time) with participation from our global members.

The purpose of the meeting was to begin the dialogue on how to access financing and urban resources at town-level to advance sustainable development and achieve the UN SDGs using the framework of a concept paper that was developed.

At the meeting the Steering Committee provided direction on the themes and sub-themes that will enfold the discussion and shared ideas at the summit as well as on the preparation of a  virtual housing workshop that will examine affordable housing at the scale of towns and actions that municipalities, businesses, advocates and others can take to make a real difference. The workshop will be based on a scenario including the Town of Collingwood’s Affordable Housing Task Force’s recommendations and available funding. The results of the workshop will be shared at the Habitat in Towns 2022 summit.
