North America, Women and Urban SDGs: An Urban Paradigm Shift Towards Gender Equality

Urban Thinkers Campus (The City We Need NOW!)

We live in unprecedented times, we have lived through a pandemic where the most vulnerable members of our society, which also include women and girls, lost their jobs and struggled to support their family members who relied on them. Now we have a war in Europe with the invasion of Ukraine, where we will likely see displacement of people and a refugee crisis.

It may feel like we are repeating the same mantra whenever we are celebrating an international day but action and raising awareness is necessary to stand up for what we think is right but more importantly what we take for granted. The civil liberties that we enjoy in the democratic countries of today can only be preserved when we continuously advocate for them and cherish them, and women’s rights are no exception to this.

At the Urban Economy Forum, we strongly emphasize on the empowerment of women to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, inspiring young generations of women will lead to a more sustainable urban future.
