Matti Vanhanen

Member of Parliament, Former Prime Minister, Finland

Matti Vanhanen was Prime Minister of Finland from June 2003 – June 2010. Prior to that position, he was Minister of Defense, Deputy Party Leader for the Center Party and member of the Party’s board of directors. He was also and remains the Center Party President and has been a member of Parliament since 1991. Mr. Vanhanen also served as the representative of the from Finland to the European Convention on the future of the European Union in 2002 and 2003.


After retiring as Prime Ministership in 2010, Mr. Vanhanen became the Managing Director of The Finnish Family Firms Association; a powerful association that represents the interests of Finland’s family owned businesses.


Vanhanen was previously a member of the Council for the Future of Europe.
