North America, Women and Urban SDGs: An Urban Paradigm Shift Towards Gender Equality

Urban Thinkers Campus (The City We Need NOW!)

Women and girls comprise approximately half the world's population yet shamefully we do not occupy 50% of decision-making roles in governments or in corporations.

We spend our time striving to create safe and secure homes for our families, often struggling to pay the bills, yet no-one asks us how our environments could be better designed to make life easier and more fulfilling.

We roll up our sleeves and volunteer in our neighbourhoods building community cohesion but, by and large, our efforts are unseen or taken for granted.

Women are the glue that hold society together. We have many of the solutions that the world needs right now but inequality and inequity threaten to exclude and overlook the women's perspective.

We want to change that with our Canada, Women and Urban SDGs initiative by putting women and girls at the forefront of sustainable urban innovation. By reaching out to women of all ages and from diverse backgrounds we aim to cross-fertilise ancient wisdom with cutting-edge ideas for urban design and technology, creating solutions for better living together in a post-pandemic 21st century world.

The World Urban Pavilion in Regent Park will be our shopfront, the place where we can showcase ideas for female-friendly cities. I invite you to join us, to contribute, to share, to inspire and be inspired, to help change the paradigm and ensure that our daughters and grand-daughters are the leaders of the sustainable cities of tomorrow.
